Red Led 7 Segment Display
The red LED 7-segment display is a classic digital component display that is widely used in various electronic devices and systems. It consists of seven red light-emitting diode segments marked a, b, c, d, e, f, and g. Through specific combinations, it can display numbers from 0 to 9 and some letters and symbols. Many such displays also have a decimal point (dp) as the eighth segment, which can be used to display decimal points or set additional display elements.
The display has high brightness, low power consumption and long life. The performance of LED provides good visual brightness, enabling the display to display graphics in a variety of environments. In application scenarios that require long-term operation or limited energy, its low power consumption characteristics are key.
From a technical perspective, it can be divided into two types: cathode and common anode. In a common cathode display, the cathode pixels of all LEDs and the anodes of the LEDs are controlled separately. This method has a relatively simple circuit design and is suitable for application. The advantage is that the display completes all the anodes of all LEDs, as shown in the figure, and is controlled separately. This method is more flexible in some complex applications, but the circuit design is relatively complex. Although the two have differences in driving methods and circuit design, they achieve the same display effect.
Usually, to control its display content, you need to use a microcontroller or a dedicated driver circuit. The microcontroller sends a high-level or low-level signal to the display part to control the LED on and off, and the desired numbers or characters are combined in the middle. The driver circuit is responsible for converting the output signal of the microcontroller into a current and voltage suitable for driving the LED.
It has a very wide range of applications, such as electronic clocks, calculators, dashboards, household appliances, and various embedded systems. For example, in car dashboards, it is often used to display vehicle speed and fuel level; in kitchen timers, it is used to display the remaining time. In these applications, it has become the first choice for digital display because of its simplicity, reliability and easy implementation.
Compared to LCD displays, the Red Led 7 Segment Display is brighter, more attractive, and offers long viewing distances and wider viewing angles. The main disadvantage of using seven segment LEDs is that they are resource intensive. Time division multiplexing is the most common technique for connecting 7 segment LEDs to a microcontroller. Using this technique, an 8 digit 7 segment LED display with decimal point requires 16 I/O pins of the microcontroller, which is quite a lot. Therefore, their use with low pin count microcontrollers such as the PIC12F series is not really feasible. The SPI7SEGDISP8.56 is the latest version of our MAX7219 based serial 7 segment LED display module, which allows you to add 8 digits of a 7 segment LED display to your project using only 3 I/O pins and provides full control over all the digit segments, including the decimal point. You can even cascade two or more of these modules together without sacrificing any extra I/O pins.
