These Led 7 Segment Display Red have 7 individual LEDs made up of the 7 segments of the display plus an 8th LED used as a decimal point. The LEDs are labeled Segments A to G and the decimal point is DP.

The display is a Common Anode (CA) type, which means that the anodes of all 8 LEDs are connected together (common) and these anodes are connected to the center pins at either end of the display and then to Vcc.

A series current limiting resistor should be installed on each of these eight control pins to guard against harm to the LED module or uC. Although it is possible to use current limiting resistors on the Vcc pins rather than the control pins, this is not advised because the brightness of the display would change based on how many segments are lighted simultaneously.
