LED display substrate material selection

RoHS Compliant 0.43 Inch Single Digit 7 Segment LED Display

The selection of LED display substrate materials is a critical decision, because the quality and performance of the materials directly affect the quality and reliability of the display. When selecting substrate materials, the following factors need to be considered:

1. Thermal conductivity: LED displays generate a lot of heat during operation, so it is necessary to select substrate materials with good thermal conductivity to effectively dissipate heat.

2. Electrical properties: The electrical properties of the substrate material determine the ability to conduct current and voltage. When selecting substrate materials, it is necessary to pay attention to parameters such as resistivity, dielectric constant, and dielectric loss to ensure the normal conduction of current and stable transmission of signals.

3. Mechanical strength: LED displays usually need to withstand complex mechanical environments such as vibration, impact, and bending. Therefore, it is very important to select substrate materials with good mechanical strength to ensure that the structure of the display is stable and reliable.

4. Environmental protection: With the increase of environmental awareness, it has become a trend to select substrate materials that meet environmental protection standards. Some harmful substances, such as lead and halogen compounds, may cause harm to the environment and human health. Therefore, it is important to select materials that comply with the RoHS directive and other environmental protection standards.

Based on the above factors, here are some commonly used LED display substrate materials:

- FR-4 board: FR-4 is a common glass fiber reinforced epoxy resin material with good mechanical strength and thermal properties. It can work at regular temperatures and is relatively cheap, and is widely used in LED display manufacturing.

- Metal substrate: A metal substrate is a substrate material with aluminum or copper as the base material and an insulating medium covered on the surface. Metal substrates have good thermal conductivity and mechanical strength and are suitable for high-power and high-density LED displays.

- PTFE board: Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is an excellent insulating material with low dielectric loss, high temperature resistance and excellent chemical stability. PTFE board is suitable for high-frequency and high-speed transmission LED displays, but the cost is high.

- FR-2 board: FR-2 is an affordable dicyandiamide phenolic-based material with low thermal conductivity, poor mechanical strength and dimensional stability. It is suitable for low-power and low-frequency applications, but not for high-density and high-frequency LED displays.

- Halogen-free board: Halogen-free board uses halogen-free flame retardants to replace traditional brominated flame retardants, so it has lower harmful substance content and better environmental performance. Halogen-free board is suitable for applications that require environmental protection, such as LED displays.

In summary, the selection of substrate materials suitable for LED displays requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as thermal conductivity, electrical properties, mechanical strength and environmental protection. In practical applications, suitable materials can be selected according to specific needs to ensure the quality and reliability of the display.
